Gummy Candy Frosting

Feb 2, 2025

This Gummy Candy Frosting is a fun and unique way to flavor whipped cream frosting using your favorite gummy candy! The result is a light, fluffy, and slightly tangy frosting that’s perfect for cupcakes, cakes, or desserts. The addition of citric acid enhances the fruity flavors and gives the frosting a subtle zing, making it irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Makes 4 cups

  • 160g (about 1 Cup) gummy candy of choice
  • 2 ½ cups heavy cream (35%)
  • ⅛ teaspoon citric acid

How to Make Gummy Candy Frosting

  1. Melt the Gummies:
    • Place a medium pot over medium heat.
    • Add the heavy cream and gummy candy.
    • Stir occasionally until the gummy candy is completely melted into the cream.
  2. Add the Citric Acid:
    • Turn off the heat and stir in the citric acid.
    • This will enhance the fruit flavors and balance the sweetness.
  3. Chill the Mixture:
    • Pour the mixture into a food-safe container.
    • Cover with plastic wrap, ensuring it touches the surface of the mixture to prevent a skin from forming.
    • Refrigerate for 6-24 hours to allow the flavors to develop and the mixture to fully chill.
  4. Whip the Frosting:
    • Transfer the chilled mixture to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment.
    • Whisk on medium speed for 5 minutes, or until the mixture has doubled in volume and is light and fluffy.
  5. Decorate & Serve:
    • Transfer the frosting to a piping bag for decorating, or spread it over cupcakes, cakes, or other desserts.

Tips & Tricks

  • Choose your gummies wisely: Fruity gummies work best! Try gummy bears, peach rings, or sour gummies for different flavor variations.
  • Use clear or light-colored gummies for pastel frosting, as darker gummies may create a murky color.
  • For a stronger flavor, increase the gummy candy slightly (but not too much, or the texture may change).
  • Make it extra tangy by adding a pinch more citric acid.

FAQ

Can I use sugar-free gummy candy?
It’s best to use regular gummies since sugar-free ones may not dissolve properly.

How long does this frosting last?
Store the frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Re-whip if needed before using.

Can I freeze this frosting?
No, since it’s whipped cream-based, it won’t hold up well after freezing.

Can I color the frosting?
The color depends on the gummy candy used, but if needed, you can add a few drops of food coloring for a more vibrant look.

Question about this gummy candy whipped cream frosting—do you have to add citric acid? I cannot find it anywhere. Can you substitute lemon juice, or will it make the cream curdle?

You can just leave it out. The citric acid just amplifies the flavour.
