Cozying up to a warm mug of hot chocolate on a cold day is one of life’s great pleasures. However, I am often disappointed in the lack of chocolatey richness imparted by most store bought cocoa mixes. Making your own mixture at home is easy and tastes way better than any grocery store brand you can buy. The key is combining both cocoa powder and dark chocolate, which imparts the most decadent rich chocolate flavour. It’s the perfect little gift from the kitchen.
Makes 3 cups
1 cup cocoa
1 cup icing sugar
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
Add all the ingredients into the bowl of a food processor and process for 10sec until the chocolate chips are broken up slightly.
Transfer to an air tight container and store in a cool dry place.
Label instructions: Heat 300ml of milk and then whisk in 2 tbsp. of hot chocolate mix.
Enjoy!
TIP: For a less intense chocolate flavour substitute milk chocolate chips for the semi-sweet.
