Cinnamon-Sugar Apple Cake

1 ¼ cup brown sugar

1/3 cup canola oil

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla

2 ½ cup flour

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground ginger

¼ tsp ground allspice

1 tsp baking soda

2 cups peeled, chopped apples (About 2 apples)


1 tbsp melted butter

¼ cup granulated sugar

2 tsp cinnamon




Preheat oven to 325F

Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment

  1. Whisk together the brown sugar, canola oil, egg, buttermilk and vanilla. Add the flour, cinnamon, ginger, allspice and stir to combine. Fold in the apples.
  2. Combine the melted butter, granulated sugar and cinnamon so it looks like wet sand.
  3. Sprinkle the topping over the cake batter evenly and bake on the middle rack for 40min or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
