Let’s be honest, holiday entertaining can be a little chaotic. The guest list grows, the oven space shrinks, and suddenly you’re juggling three timers, a playlist, and a glass of bubbly. But here’s the good news: your holiday side dishes don’t have to add to the stress.
I’m all about sides that are big on flavour, low on fuss, and crowd-pleasing enough to serve alongside whatever main dish you’ve got planned. Whether you’re hosting a festive dinner or bringing a dish to a potluck, these holiday side dishes will keep things simple and delicious, just the way I like it.
Here are five of my favourite holiday sides to make, share, and enjoy.

1. Sweet & Savoury Almond and Hickory Cocktail Mix
This snack mix is perfect for when guests first arrive or while you’re finishing up dinner. Roasted almonds coated in a buttery honey-spice mixture get tossed with hickory sticks, dried cranberries, rosemary, and sesame seeds. It’s a little sweet, a little savoury, and totally addictive. Bonus: it keeps well, so you can make it a few days ahead.

2. Green Bean Bundles with Prosciutto
Wrapped in salty prosciutto and roasted until crisp, these green bean bundles make any holiday table feel a little more dressed up. A sprinkle of lemon zest, Parmigiano Reggiano, toasted pecans, and parsley adds a fresh, festive finish. They’re elegant, but still easy enough to prep ahead and roast just before serving.

3. Goat’s Cheese Mashed Potatoes with Chives
Mashed potatoes are a holiday classic, but this version takes things up a notch. Creamy goat cheese, tangy yogurt, and fresh chives turn this side into a flavour-packed upgrade. These mashed potatoes reheat beautifully, making them perfect for prepping the night before so you can spend more time enjoying and less time mashing.

4. Herb & Garlic Roasties
Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, these roast potatoes get their extra golden crunch from duck fat and a little baking soda in the boiling water. Tossed with garlic-herb butter, fresh chives, and lemon zest, they’re the ultimate holiday comfort food and always a hit around the table.

5. Broccolini with Tomato-Caper Dressing and Parm Breadcrumbs
This vibrant side dish brings brightness and bold flavour to your spread. Tender broccolini is tossed in a tomato-caper dressing, sprinkled with crispy Parm breadcrumbs, and topped with bacon for good measure. It’s fresh, colourful, and pairs beautifully with rich mains.

Entertaining Made Delicious (and Doable)
The holidays should be about connection, not perfection. These side dishes let you show up with something delicious, without being tied to the kitchen. Most of them can be made ahead, finished in the oven, or served at room temp, so you can pour a glass of wine, set the table, and actually enjoy the party.
